Text: Acts 3:11-26

  1. The history.
    • Review - the crippled man was fully healed (Acts 3:1-10)
    • Recent history (Acts 3:13-15)
      1. The Jews delivered up Jesus to be crucified.
        • Jesus, the glorified Servant
        • Jesus, the Holy One
        • Jesus, the Just
        • Jesus, the Prince of Life
      2. God raised Jesus from the dead - the Jews were witnesses of the risen Jesus.
      3. The shepherd's heart of Peter (Acts 3:17).
    • Ancient history (Acts 3:17-18, 22-25).
      1. God foretold that the Christ would suffer (Psalm 22; Isaiah 52:13-53:12)
      2. Moses foretold of a greater Prophet (Deut. 18:15-20).
      3. God told Abraham that all the families of the earth would be blessed through his seed (Genesis 12:1-3; Galatians 3:16).
  2. The appropriate response - repentance (Acts 3:19-21, 26).
    • Believe - "to place confidence in, to trust".
    • Repentance - "to perceive afterwards; to change the mind".
      1. Turn to Jesus as Lord and Savior.
      2. Turn away from a life of sin.
    • Matthew 3:1-2 - In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!"
    • Matthew 4:17 - From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."
  3. Personal evaluation.
    • Have I truly repented and accepted Christ as Lord and Savior?
    • Matthew 7:21-23 - Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord," shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'
      • Am I still holding on to my old lifestyle/worldview?
      • Do I value the blessing of turning from my sin to Christ?
      • Do I see the urgency to share the gospel?

Discussion Questions: How would the context of being a Jew in A.D. 30 make it easier/harder to receive the gospel message? What are some of the different contexts/worldviews my friends and families have that are keeping them from accepting the gospel message? How can my being familiar with their worldview help with sharing the gospel with them? In what ways am I preventing Christ from being Lord of my life? Are there any sins I am refusing to give up?
