Text: Revelation 5:1-14

Main Idea: As the Lamb on the throne, Jesus meets all our need in redemption and is worthy of all our worship.

  1. We have a desperate need for Jesus. (vs. 1-5)
    • Genesis 49:9-10, Isaiah 11:1, 10
  2. The supremely worthy Jesus Christ not only meets, but exceeds our need through redemption. (vs. 6-10)
    • The depth of redemption: for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God.
    • The breadth of redemption: from every tribe and language and people and nation
    • The height of redemption: you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.
  3. The appropriate response that Jesus deserves is magnificent, awe-struck, wonderful worship. (vs. 11-14)

Matthew 11:28-30: Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.

Discussion Questions: What is the condition of the churches to whom John is writing? Why is Jesus the only one worthy to "open the scroll" and reveal humanity's destiny? What is the significance of Jesus being the Lion and the Lamb? What does the realization that Jesus is in control of the future, despite present circumstances, lead Christians to experience? Why does Jesus deserve to be worshipped? How is worship expressed?
