Text: Romans 5:18-19
Main Idea: Christians are declared righteous in part because Jesus' perfect righteousness is imputed to them.
- The greatest problem: Sin
- Genesis 2:15-17; Galatians 3:10; Matthew 22:36-40
- Romans 5:12-19
- The gracious solution: Justification
- Romans 4:3; Galatians 4:4-5; Matthew 3:13-15; Matthew 5:17, 20; Matthew 5:21-22, 27-28; Philippians 2:5-7
- The glorious implications of the imputed righteousness of Christ: (2 Corinthians 5:11-21)
- A righteous position before God.
- A reconciled relationship of peace with God.
- A restored pleasure in God.
- A redeemed perspective.
Discussion Questions: According to Romans 5:12-19, how are Adam and Jesus similar? How are they different? What is original sin, and how does it affect us? What is imputation? In justification, what is imputed to believers and what is imputed to Christ? Describe the righteous life of Christ. When you stand before God the Judge, would you rather have your own righteousness or Christ's? How does the grasping of this doctrine lead you to respond in different areas of your life (family, friends, enemies, etc.)?
